Cost: $5 (recommended) $1 (each refreshment/dessert) Half of the evening's proceeds will be given to the musicians charity selection. This year the musicians have sent funds to Carroll Hospice, Access Carroll, Common Ground on the Hill, Bethany Christian Services, Family and Children's Services, Westminster, and Haiti. "Got a minute for a cup of coffee?" The familiar invitation means the pleasure of my company is requested for more than 60 seconds. "Of course," I say, as I mentally write "Tomorrow" across my always lengthy TO DO list. Coffee used to be: regular or black sugar's on the table. But now, how to choose? Dark roast, half caf, no caf, decaf, latte, double latte, tea, herbal, caffeine free, spiced, chai. Finally seated, steaming mugs in our hands, live music and table conversations fade away. We talk about weather, the family, theology, politics, dreams and disappointments, hopes and fears, determination and new resolve. We took a minute for coffee, we thought. It had been a long day or week, a little caffeine revived us. We both knew or hoped a cup of coffee with a friend was the way to find ourselves, to be renewed.
